I've written articles about many of our newest staff members. However, it wasn't until yesterday, when I was having lunch with Velocity's President, Thaddeus Gerber, that I thought, 'Geez, nobody knows anything about this guy.' Those of you who have met him know he's a pretty outspoken and jovial guy. BUT, did you know his mother was a computer programmer or that he's actually pretty good at ping pong (a staple skill in IT these days)? Probably not! Learn more about the President of one of the world's top managed IT service providers in the short interview below.
What is your professional background?
"My mother was actually a computer programmer so I was exposed to computers at a very young age. I started working professionally with computers in 1992. I ended up working in senior IT positions for several companies including Johnson & Johnson, Cedars Sinai, move.com, Universal and Yahoo.com. During the beginning of my career, I developed a specialty in Enterprise Email Systems, managing global email systems in excess of 20,000 users. The rest of my skill sets grew from there."
Why did you start Velocity Network Solutions?
"I started Velocity Network Solutions because, at the time, I felt there was a shortage of IT consulting firms that serviced small and mid sized businesses. Now, I believe there's just a shortage of good ones (laughs). I believed I could take everything I learned from supporting complex enterprise environments and apply those best practices to small and mid-size businesses. So far, so good!"
What are your short & long term goals?
"My short term goals are to continuing to improve the support and services that we provide our customers. I get that that might sound like a canned response but it's totally true. My long-term goals are to expand Velocity’s capabilities and reach so we can serve other metropolitan markets."
Do you have any hobbies or favorite pastimes?
"Well, any business owner will tell you their hobbies outside of work are often...more work. Seriously though, outside of my work life, I have a wife and two kids so I spend most of my free time with my family. They help to keep my life balanced. I also enjoy reading about newer technologies and trends, especially in the cloud space."
If you could meet a historical figure, who would it be and why?
"Wow, where do I start?! I would like to meet Nikola Tesla. He was a brilliant inventor who really pushed the boundaries of what we thought was possible at the time. I think it would be fascinating to converse with him."
